Vestibular physiotherapy, also known as vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT), is a specialized form of physical therapy aimed at treating symptoms related to vestibular disorders. These disorders affect the inner ear and can result in symptoms such as dizziness, vertigo (a sensation of spinning or whirling), imbalance, and visual disturbances.

The initial intake includes a comprehensive assessment of the individual's vestibular system and related symptoms. Based on the assessment findings, a customized treatment plan is developed to address specific issues. Treatment may include exercises to improve balance and stability, habituation exercises to reduce sensitivity to motion, gaze stabilization exercises to enhance visual focus during head movements, and education on strategies to manage symptoms in daily life. The goal of vestibular physiotherapy is to alleviate symptoms, improve function, and enhance quality of life for individuals with vestibular disorders.

Cupping therapy works by creating suction on the skin using specialized cups. This suction pulls the skin and underlying tissues slightly upward into the cup, which helps increase blood flow to the affected area. The increased circulation brings more oxygen and nutrients to the tissues, while the negative pressure helps release muscle tension, break up stagnant blood, and stimulate lymphatic drainage.

The process also helps loosen tight muscles, reduce inflammation, and promote the body’s natural healing response. Cupping can leave temporary marks, often called “cupping marks” or “bruises,” which are painless and usually fade within a few days, indicating improved circulation in the treated areas. This therapy is often used for pain relief, relaxation, and faster recovery from injuries or muscle strain.

Gua Sha (pronounced ‘gwa sha’), as I offer it, helps move lymphatic fluids and soothe facial muscle tension. This advanced technique involves lifting and massaging under the bones, improving blood flow and reducing puffiness. Enhanced circulation hydrates the skin, giving a youthful glow and aiding in purging dirt and oils.

A Gua Sha facial uses a flat jade or rose quartz stone, glided over the face and neck in upward strokes. This gentle touch relaxes muscles and promotes tissue drainage, leaving the skin healthy and glowing. You'll feel rejuvenated after the first treatment, with more noticeable results after a few sessions.

Beyond beauty benefits like a defined jawline, tighter pores, and balanced skin tone, Gua Sha offers health advantages. These include relief from sinusitis, reduced scar tissue, lessened TMJ tension, and improved blood flow and lymphatic circulation.

Alexander Technique has been part of Caprice’s life since 2003. She qualified as a teacher in 2012. She makes regular visits to the Alexander Technique Centre Amsterdam, and enjoys Continuing Education opportunities with many International teachers in the Alexander Technique community. She also studies how to combine craniosacral therapy with AT, since it has had a positive impact on her own wellbeing.

Caprice has been certified to teach the Pilates Method since 2004. She teaches in a rehabilitative style that marries well with the Alexander Technique. Pilates is not choreography: it is a system of exercise that works best when your body is well-prepared and you have an understanding of the work. Gentle and timely progression will ensure success. Caprice recently qualified as a Core Confidence Specialist which means she can work alongside your Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist to help you rehabilitate pelvic floor dysfunction.

Caprice wants you to finish each lesson feeling better than when you began. You will learn about efficient movement patterning, which will lead to expanded movement choices. This, in turn, will help you relinquish ineffectual movement patterns and regain natural ease, flexibility and power. This approach can relieve neck and shoulder discomfort, address back pain, release tension from the body, improve coordination, and enhance your awareness of your deep core muscles by removing the focus from the overworked, superficial muscles of the body.
